A very short read today. I would like to buy the book on “Fanning the Flames: Propaganda in Modern Japan” which is edited by KAORU (KAY) UEDA, or should I say, by Dr Kay Ueda, which is the name by which I got to know about her and her work, but I hesitate because I still have books on my shelf I haven’t read completely. I happened to stumble across a few videos which came up on my YouTube feed featuring presentations on the topic. The most important takeaways I had were that people are always trying to gain control of the narrative which expresses their worldviews and beliefs, and that propaganda is for one’s own people, and only works if a significant percentage of that population have already bought in to whatever narrative is being promoted at any given time or period. Would you like to explore this, and perhaps buy the book from Hoover and read aloud with me if you would like some practice?
